Delaware’s Walkability Checklist

The second step in the walkability-assessment process, Delaware’s Walkability Checklist will assist local officials and community stakeholders in identifying changes that can promote healthier living through increased walkability. The checklist is designed to be completed by an authorized official as an “in-the-field” assessment, meaning a designated local official will plan and facilitate a walk and evaluation of a pre-determined area to assess certain elements of its walkability (e.g., condition and maintenance of sidewalks, pedestrian amenities, destinations present within the area). The checklist provides tips on how to best plan for a walk and instructions on rating the designated area according to a Walkability Rating Scale.
